Good to know
- These are retailer conventions, not a binding standard. Brands vary, so a label size is a starting point; body measurements in cm are the reliable comparison.
- EN 13402 (European standard) labels clothes by body measurements in cm with a pictogram: bust girth is the primary dimension for women's dresses, chest girth for men's jackets, and height for children. It aims to replace older size systems; adoption has varied.
- Women: M&S maps UK 6 = US 2 = AU/NZ 6 = EU 34, i.e. US = UK minus 4, AU = UK, EU = UK plus 28. Nordstrom's designer chart maps US 2 = UK 6 = France 34 = Italy 38 = Japan 5, so France matches M&S 'EU', and Italy runs 4 above France.
- Nordstrom's chart has no Germany column and M&S has no France/Italy split, so a separate German row is not recorded. Third-party sites (not used) put Germany 2 below France; that was not confirmed on a retailer page read here.
- Men's suit/jacket: UK, US and Australian sizes are the chest in inches; EU size is 10 higher (That British Tweed Company; Nordstrom men's designer chart agrees: US/UK 40 = EU/IT 50).
